There’s something special about an outdoor space that feels like it has always belonged to the home.
For this Falls Church, Virginia screened porch and deck project, our goal was to create a warm, woodsy retreat while complementing the existing mid-century modern character of the house. The result is a combination screened porch and open deck that gives these homeowners two distinct ways to enjoy their backyard.
And when you see the before-and-after photos, the transformation is pretty incredible.

A Screened Porch Designed Around the Home
The new screened porch measures approximately 20′ x 14’5″ and features TimberTech Edge Prime Plus decking in Dark Cocoa, bronze ScreenEze screening, black IRX railing, and a black Andersen self-storing screen door.
Overhead, an open pine tongue-and-groove ceiling brings warmth and natural texture into the space, while four black InfraTech heaters help make the porch more comfortable as Northern Virginia temperatures change throughout the year.

The darker material palette was intentional, helping the new structure blend beautifully with the existing brown exterior rather than competing with the home’s architecture.

Extending the Space with an Open Composite Deck
Alongside the porch, we built a 16′ x 14’5″ open deck using the same Dark Cocoa TimberTech decking for a seamless transition between spaces. Black IRX railing keeps the design clean and modern, while an English Walnut drink rail adds a functional finishing touch.

The project also included TimberTech DrySpace system beneath the open deck.

Our favorite part? Hearing that the homeowners felt we “matched the aesthetic beautifully” and that they “could not have asked for a better end result nor experience.” Read the full review here.
For us, that’s the goal: not simply adding a deck or screened porch but creating an outdoor space that feels like a natural extension of the home.
